Karolina's Twins by Ronald H. Balson - A Review

The book Karolina's Twins written by Ronald H. Balson is a must read for anyone who enjoys historical fiction. Recently I have been finding it increasingly difficult to find books that I enjoy reading and can't put down as seen in my previous reviews all of which have been mostly negative, but Karolina's Twins has kept me engaged and interested in its plot. If you are looking for a great quick read, this is the book for you.

The book begins with Lena Woodward, a survivor of World War 2 II, hiring lawyer Catherine Lockhart and private investigator Liam Taggart to help her fulfill a promise that she made to a close friend of hers in the midst of the war. This promise was finding the two daughters of her childhood friend, Karolina. What makes this book so interesting is all of the information that Lena gives pertaining her experiences during WWII, with readers hearing about her evading Nazi capture, discovering that her family had been executed, joining a rebel organization, smuggling letters from death camps to send to the Allies, and more. This book provides readers with an extremely detailed depiction of what Lena's life was like in Poland during the war and does a great job of relating Lena's promise to her life story.

Unlike many other books that I have read before, Karolina's Twins does not bore the readers with a slow moving plot, but presents the backstory that makes other books boring in a creative and engaging manner. The author goes into vivid detail when describing the backstory, making readers feel as though they are reliving the characters memories. I think that by making the readers feel like they are in the story, the author manages to present a lot of necessary information for the plot of the story to make sense while keeping the reader interested in what will happen next.

Overall, I think that this is a great quick-read and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. The plot is always engaging and leaves the reader wanting more which is something that I haven't seen many books be able to do recently. Karolina's Twins is easily one of the best books I have read out of all of the books I've reviewed and is perfect for anyone who is looking to get back into reading.

  1. Great review! This sounds like a really interesting historical fiction book! I thought it was really interesting that you pointed out that the author does a good job presenting the characters' backstories in an interesting and even moving way, since this is something, in my experience, that a lot of book don't do that well. I had recently heard of this book, and had kind of considered reading it and then forgotten about it, so I'm definitely looking forward to giving it a try now!
